iPads & Devices

You may be wondering whether you can use/ bring your IPads and androids and Samsungs and IPhones and what not to school. If I remember correctly, you were allowed to bring some kind of iPad or tablet but you couldn't use phones and you had to keep your iPads in store rooms during break. Fortunately, it's not like that in the Senior School. You are able to bring whatever device you want and use them during break times (but there are certain areas you are not allowed to use devices). 

But be aware that there are certain rules for using devices!

1. Don't use your devices during lessons without a teachers permission
2. Don't take photos/videos without permission
3. You can use your devices during break, but be aware you can't use them in certain areas
4. You cannot make calls
5. Some form tutors will prevent you from using your devices in the morning (sadly 😞)

Just like in the Junior School, you need certain apps during lessons. These apps are asked to be downloaded by your teachers so you can use them (EDUCATIONALLY) during lessons. The most important ones you will need for the Senior School are:

• Google Classroom
• Google Docs
• Google Slides
•  Kahoot! (Just in case)
• Quizlet (very useful for studying and such but it's not 100% mandatory)
• A calculator app (if you don't have a calculator already)
• Some kind of QR code scanner (also very useful)

Some teachers will ask you to download specific apps for their lessons though; that depends on what your teacher whiches to do during lessons.

French and Spanish

After the first term, you are asked to do either Spanish, French or both. Whatever you choose you will have to do for the rest of your time in senior school. Don't feel worried. It might take long to decide but you will think of something.

French
French is the language you have been doing since year 4 so you might want to continue that.

Spanish
Spanish is a new subject and it might be good to do it. Some people even say that Spanish is easier than French

French and Spanish
Your teacher might tell you that you can do both but it's really your choice. Learning two languages might be fun and hen you don't have to choose either French or Spanish

One language also means less homework 😜. But, it might be useful to speak French AND Spanish when you grow older. Any questions?

Dear year 6s,
The transition from year six to year seven is not easy but you will soon forget about the difficulties of the transition the further into the school year you get. You can take my word for it. You will have a head of year just like in year six but you will also have a different teacher for every lesson which is not like year six at all. You will also have a form tutor who will stay with until the end of year 13 and so will your head of year. As you have a form tutor you will have form time which is a short period that you spend in your form room at the start of every day. In this time you will be able to revise for any upcoming tests, read the bulletin, tale the register etc. But during certain times of every term you will have something called a form breakfast were you are able to bring cakes, sweets, drinks etc. To school and have during for time. It is kind of like a buffet but in school.

Backpacks 💼👝👜

Hi!
I'm going to cover a topic that you may not have thought about...backpacks.

Here are some key pointers when you're going to go buy a backpack for Year 7.

• Make sure your bag can carry a lot, because you have to carry your books to lessons. Teachers don't keep them in class.
• Also, make sure it's comfortable on your shoulders, you don't want to deal damage to your back.
• One of the best places to get backpacks is Jansport, however, there are other good places, like Pottery Barn kids, or other Backpack stores. The best thing you can do is go to a place that makes backpacks properly, not pick up a random backpack from a supermarket that came with your fifty kg of cheese. (Idk, Carrefour has some random deals). 
• Make sure it's big enough, but not too big. We don't want to find you never made it to school because you where destroyed by your massive backpack.
• Don't just go by the latest trends because you think it'll make you cool and less weird. Get a backpack you actually like and is good for your build, because it's likely you'll use these bag for the whole year, or even two.

Life in Year 7 part 2

HELLO! And welcome back to my tour and this time I will be talking about Phone's Policy.
In the senior school you will be seeing kids using thier phones or other devices before the school starts. And that is allowed but as soon the bell rings you should put it away either in your bag or locker. If you are caught using your device during a lesson when you are not told to, you can end up in a detention during your only break. ☹️ Or the teacher will take it away from you and your parents will have to get it back for you at the reception. You are allow to use it during form time or during break. Also do not use headphone or phones while walking, teachers do not like it. 😁 But do not worry ( I am not trying to scare you) if you obey the school's rule, you will be flying though the school (not literally) making new friends and having fun, the most important part of school (in my opinion)🤓.

ENRICHMENT IS EVERY WEEK WITH THE EXEPTION OF SOME...EACH ENRICHMENT YOU WILL DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT UNLESS IT IS A SERIES OF SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR. DURING ENRICHMENT DAYS, LESSONS WILL BE SHORTER BUT THE SCHOOL DAY WILL BE THE SAME TIME, 2:40.

Teachers, Lessons & Locations 

Are you worried about getting lost during lessons? What about your teachers? Will the lessons be hard? Well don't worry! From our experience, everything will be okay.

The school isn't hard to get around. There are different corridors for each subject such as the DT corridor, the English corridor, Sports hall , drama hall, etc. These corridors have the different classrooms. If your having trouble, there are directions somewhere on the walls, and if you can't use those, you can always ask the students or teachers to help you. 

Each classroom has two letters and a number to show which classroom your in, for example, La3, Ma7, En8. The two letters show what corridor it's in, English is En, Math is Ma, La is Languages (French and Spanish classrooms). The letter is simply the room number. This is displayed on the doors and again, don't be afraid to ask others if you get lost (I speak form experience 😅).

Now on to the teachers. We all know thoes mean, scary, stict and picky teachers. There will always be at least one. But lucky for you, the senior school isn't one of those places (I think). A very large handful of teachers are very nice and try to teach you up to the best of their abilities. They're nice and you don't have to worry buuuut try not to get yourself a detention.

The lessons more or less work the same way as the Junior School except there are bells between each period. Each lesson is two periods long, but there will be one period lessons too. Each lesson is 40 minuetes long so (if you can add) each double period lesson is 1h and 20mins long. But what are the lessons even like?

They're:

• Fun - most of the time
• Active - you actually don't have to sit on a chair all day
• Helpful - you learn a lot
• Creative - the lessons always have a unique way of teaching you
• Cooperative - there's quite a lot of group work 

The lessons aren't going to be boring, long and long and boring and long like you think it's gonna be, but it does tend to be a bit dismal towards the exams but that's an exception... I guess.

Languages

Here's a bit of information on Languages in the Senior School.

As you already know, you have French and Arabic+ (Is that what it's called or is it something else?). However, it doesn't work like that in the Senior School.

[Quick note though, if you are a native Arabic student, you will do Arabic in language lessons as normal. So you don't need to worry, and can forget about this post completely! 👍]

In Year 7 you have a choice between French and Spanish. However, for the first term you will do French with your form class. Then, for a couple of weeks, you'll try out Spanish (a trial). 

In term 2, you'll have the choice...French or Spanish or, even both. However, for both you had to have gotten an A in French, because it's very difficult. Choose wisely, because you do these languages till Year 11.  If you choose to do both, you will have it split up between your language lessons, or may have to do early morning French (before school starts).

Once you've chosen what language you're doing, you wont be having language lessons with your form class. You will be separated into sets, depending on your Term 1 exam results and overall level, so everyone will be working on the same things.

Homework diary

You use your homework diary to see when there is homework.
There is a a box with he date at the top. You put the subject the homework is for, what IS the homework, the date it is due and there is a column called 'done' where you have to tick when you have finished that homework. Here is also a small box at the bottom of the page that says 'notes/reminders'. I think you know what you have to put there 😋. In the box there is also a 'parent signature' and 'tutor signature'. Every Sunday your tutor will sign your homework diary and they will check if your parent has signed it too. If you have not signed it, it means your parent hasn't seen your homework and doesn't know if you have finished it. Here is also two boxes that say 'Friday' and 'Saturday' that says what events there are on the weekend.

Hello👋,My name is Freya and I am very excited to see you next year! Many people say when you move to senior school  the older students pick on you but that is not true.
I thought when I move to senior school older pupils would point me to wrong directions when I was lost however,the older students guided me to me classes when I was lost.
When you get lost around the school don't feel silly because on my 3rd week in school I got lost and I was 15 minutes late for class 😂 but the teacher understood what happened.
For the first few weeks  you will be able to leave class early before break so you can buy food from the tuck shop.In the tuck shop there are hot meals,salads,refreshments,ice creams🍦and chocolates 🍫extra...
FYI the teachers are soooooo kind,nice and understanding

Here are the things you may need in lesson. All lessons (except music, drama, DT, PE and ICT) need books and textbooks so make sure you bring the books you need everyday unless your teacher already has your book.

Library- library books
Music- IPads
Drama- drama kit
Art- headphone so you can listen to music and book
DT- IPads
PE- PE kit
ICT- Headphones

Hello!
My name is Julia and together as a class we will be telling you about the life in year 7.
A bit of preparation.
On this blog you will be free to ask all sorts of questions.
The senior school is quiet different to the junior.
First I shall tell you about the best...

• At this school there is a tuck shop- here the workers sell food that comes from Alosra and the food is very delicious. There are foods like pasta, fries, chocolate bars, donuts etc.
• There is a very nice garden at the front of the school- this garden is very green and it is said to be the most peaceful place in the school.
• There are very nice teachers at the senior school- these teachers here are very kind and I presume they can't wait to be teaching you all.
• Lockers- you will be very lucky and each of you will be allowed to buy a locker for 3 bd to store your books and other items. The best part ( for the girls) might be that you are allowed to decorate your locker.

Now I shall tell you about the not so fun things but still enjoyable ones...

• Lesson to lesson- at the senior school you don't get to stay in your class for the whole day. There is lots of moving around from lesson to lesson. This is not the best because unfortunately  if your small like me, you will be oftenly getting stuck in crowds of  older students.
• Heavy bag- here you will have to take your books everywhere and there will be lots of books 
• in your bag. This will make your bag heavy but no worries you will have a chance to get a locker and keep your books there.

In this post we are going to give you some top tips to make you comfortable in the senior school.

• Making a good spot for all your friends to go to when they reach school in the morning - Ours is in the Tuck Shop, however you can choose.
• Make new friends- Making new friends can change your life in the senior school. For example; If you did not know there was a test and did not revise, they could inform you and revise with you, if you feel uncomfortable they will always watch your back.
• Study hard- Studying a lot can boost your grades and improve test performance.
•  Don't study TOOO HARD- If you study too hard it can decrease your hours of sleep, and if you study too hard you can get frustrated and tired. It is also proven that if you study bit by bit it is better than studying 5 hours straight.

Hey 6E!

My name is Alejandra, and welcome to Year 7!
We can't wait for you all to come up to year 7.
The year 6 transition to year 7 is quite nerveaking sometimes but don't worry you will do fine :)
Next year you might have trouble with...

• Homework
• Finding classes
• Finding friends 
• Finding places to eat, etc...

But don't worry if you need anything feel free to come and ask me!

On the first day you will be asked to go to the sports hall and Miss.Tierney will talk to all of about what will be happening today and through out the year. Then she will call each class to go with their form tutor to their form class. 

In the morning everyday you go to your form class and you do the register. After that you do the bulletin which tells you any fun activities happening this week. Sometimes if you finish early your form tutor might let you play some games or talk quietly with each other. When the bell rings you go inside your first lesson.

Don't forget to ask any questions!

Exams

You don't need to worry about exams at the end of the year but don't be over confident, you never know what will happen. I found taking notes at the beginning of the year helpful because at the end if the year all I need to do is read all the notes again. You don't want to be doing all the studying the night before the exam, although you may remember stuff at the exam, it will not get into your long term memory. You don't have to revise through the year, but it's better if you do.

Life in Year 7

Hey there, welcome to your new life in year 7. I will be your tour girl, Sarah. And let me introduce you to some of my favorite locations around the school.
 We first got the all amazing Tuck Shop!!! This fascinating little store sell are sort of goods (just food really) and drinks. If you have a chololate addiction 🍫( like me) you can buy goodies from hot chololate to a chocolate brownie. And if that haven't excited your tastes buds yet, you can buy your lunch at the Hot Food area. There you can buy pizza, spaghetti, Thai curry, lasagna etc🍕🍕🍕. Your average cash for your school lunch should be around .500 to 3BD.
And if you are still hungry after school you can buy ICE CREAM 😋😋from the ice cream van before you get to the bus.
